James,
Thanks, I've seen that video, and it was what clued me in to the problem I'm having ... the slide on my caliper is frozen (shown at the 11 min mark in the video), thus the brakes are no longer free-floating and the non-piston side of the caliper is always exerting some drag.
If you have any other suggestions, I'd appreciate it.

Does anyone know how to disassemble the slide / floating mechanism on the reag brake of a K1600GTL?
